Our First Egg

This morning started out like any other, but little did we know it was about to turn into something so special. I was inside making coffee when Justin suddenly signaled through the window for me to come outside. Rosemary—one of our sweet hens—had gone into the coop and was walking in little circles, clearly up to something. We both stood there, quietly excited, watching her like two kids trying not to spoil a surprise.

Later in the day, while I was at work, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. So, of course, I called Justin and asked if he had checked the coop. He said he was just heading home and would look. A few minutes later, my phone buzzed with a text: “Boom—there it is.”

Our very first egg.

It sounds funny to say, but the joy that washed over us felt a lot like Christmas morning. One tiny egg, sitting there in the nesting box, and we were over the moon. All the care, the waiting, the wondering—it finally paid off. That little egg held so much hope and excitement for us, the start of something new on our little homestead journey.

Shortly after, I went out to clean the coop and decided to lift the little blanket in the nesting box—just in case there was another surprise waiting. And guess what? There it was, another perfect little egg, tucked neatly away like a tiny treasure.

Two perfect eggs in one day. What a sweet and exciting milestone.

I honestly don’t remember the last time I was this excited. It’s amazing how something so small can bring so much joy.

Rosemary's first egg.
